One of the things that always makes me laugh (in a sarcastic way) is how so many people are looking for the magic bullet of success. How many times have you heard someone say “if I only had…” then I would be rich, or then I would take off in this business or that business? What I find most of the time however is the people complaining are the same ones who are not really doing a whole lot to make themselves successful.

I like to call this behavior abdicating responsibility. I see it often when people blame their lack of success on circumstance or someone else’s lack of action. It is much easier to complain about something than it is to do something meaningful about it, however as soon as you can learn to separate yourself from this kind of behavior you can begin to rise above the crowd.

There is no magic bullet for success, no pill or potion you can take to one day wake up and have all of your problems solved. The best thing to do is make it a goal to be just a small amount better today than you were yesterday. If you do this consistently in just a few years you will be playing on a whole new level. Even if it takes you 10 years, it is still well worth it. Keep in mind that 10 years is going to pass regardless of whether or not you do something to better yourself.

I always ask myself one simple question when confronted with a situation. “Is the person involved someone I would like to emulate”? By asking myself this simple question I can easily discover how much credence to give to the situation at hand. By choosing carefully the people I emulate I can choose my own success. Though there is no magic bullet, there is a formula for success, it just takes a little time.
